Third Eastern European regional academy for social democracy

The program included a detailed get-to-know and discussion about the Moldovan EU association progress, meeting high level representatives like ANDRIAN CANDU, President of the Moldovan Parliament as well as activists from the civil society and media.

The Third Eastern European Academy for Social Democracy bought together 24 progressive young leaders from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Germany, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova from 14th till 21st of May. The program included a detailed get-to-know and discussion about the Moldovan EU association progress, meeting high level representatives like ANDRIAN CANDU, President of the Moldovan Parliament as well as activists from the civil society and media. The week was rounded up by an intense soft skill workshop on training methods in Vadul lui Voda as well as an excursion to Transnistria.

The Third Academy was devoted to the topic of Association Agreement between the EU and the countries of the Eastern Partnership, namely, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia, and whether such type of cooperation could be beneficial for Russia.

On the example of Moldova, the participants were able to receive an expert analysis of the pros and cons signing of the Association Agreement has brought to the country, what are the related challenges the society is facing now and how it influence the political situation inside the country.

Pirkka TAPIOLA, Head of the EU Delegation to Chisinau, has shared his opinion on the Political Association and Economic Integration of the Republic of Moldova with the EU – Priorities & Challenges. Ulrike KNOTZ, German Ambassador to Chisinau, gave her perspectives on how the Republic of Moldova could be supported on its way toward European integration and the Minister for Foreign Affairs DANIELA MORARI gave some more details on the Association Agreement and its influence on the Region.

Very important part of the Academy was a discussion with the representatives of the civil society. Economic aspects of the Association Agreement and impact of DCFTA after two years of implementation- an independent assessment were presented by Adrian LUPUȘOR, Executive director of Independent Think Tank Expert-Grup; whereas the role of media in this area and a topic of the freedom of speech in Moldova for and after the Association Agreement was debated with Nadine GOGU, Executive director of the Independent Centre of Journalism and Petru MACOVEI, Executive director of the Independent Press Association.

The participants have an opportunity to receive an in-depth analysis on the benefits and challenges the Association Agreement brings to the counterparts and to discuss with the politicians, experts and representatives of the civil society whether this type of cooperation between their EaP country and the European Union and if such kind of cooperation is relevant for Russian Federation.

The second part of the program took place in Vadul lui Voda and was focused on mastering the soft skills of the participants. The workshop on „Basics of facilitation and democratic learning“ gave participants a chance to master their facilitation skills as also to work out the ideas for common projects.
