On April 13 in the framework of the XI Kyiv Security Forum (KSF2018) a IPG-Journal discussion organized by FES Regional Office on Digitalization and its influence on society and the job market took place.

The discussion was led by experts: Henning TILLMANN, Software Developer, Member of Committee for Media and Internet Policies at SPD Party Executive; Yegor STADNYI, Director CEDOS; Andrii TYMCHYSHYN-VALEVSKY, from “Kyiv Smart City”; Eva ELLEREIT, FES Eastern Europe.

Among many issues the panelists talked about:

- The possible increase of social distance between people (e.g. in rural areas and big cities) due to digitalization and what should be done for bridging the gap between rich and poor in that regard.

- Artificial intelligence (AI) and its advantages/weaknesses. Mentioning, that such solely human predominant features as creativity and learning how to use the tools will always remain strong points that can’t be fulfilled by AI.

 - Digitalization and its effect on the job market. In this relation explaining core pros and cons of the process, preparation and proper education are necessary to prevent misunderstanding in the society.

- Democratic participation and security. Digitalization can be a mean for citizens to participate in decision-making-processes. At the same time, it is necessary to discuss how could human rights and basic freedoms be secured with the digitalization.
